Theater St.Gallen

Description

The Theater St.Gallen has a long tradition, dating back to the Middle Ages. It was originally inspired by two monks, Tutilo and Notker – the first professional theatre opened in 1801. When it comes to musical theatre, special operas are often performed. Classic plays with a contemporary twist alternate with modern drama in the theatre lineup. The dance company puts on impressive contemporary dance performances. In recent years, the Theater St.Gallen has made a name for itself as the most important musical stage in Switzerland with a special programme for children and young people. The theatre has a second stage for performances located in the unusual Lokremise , a former depot for train locomotives and today a venue dedicated to innovative forms of theatre.
