Etelweiher
Description
Legends also surround the Etel area. It owes its name to the witch "Etelwybli", who is said to have lived in the area since the Middle Ages... The current inhabitants of the Etel pond, on the other hand, are quite real: in addition to fish (rudd and roach), native crayfish (Astacus astacus in Latin) live here. They are a protected species. Although the crayfish are nocturnal, these interesting creatures can also be observed during the day from July to October. Crabs are omnivores. Their diet ranges from plankton, algae growth, plants, various insect larvae, mussels, snails and carrion to fish and... conspecifics. Crabs place high demands on their environment. They are regarded as indicators of clean water. And Schneisingen is in a privileged position in this respect. See for yourself and take a sip of Etelbrünneli spring water, which gushes out of the hillside a few steps from here (to the east, to the left of the hiking trail).
Opening Hours
The Etelweiher is open all year round.
