Parish church of St. Johannes Ufhusen

Description

Instead of a tower, the church has a ridge turret with a baroque onion dome. The two side altars from the late Rococo period show images of St. Catherine of Alexandria and St. Catherine of Siena. Two processional busts of St. John the Baptist and St. Catherine of Alexandria stand on consoles in the choir.

The 15 Stations of the Cross painted in oil on wood, which are distributed along the two side aisles, also date from the time the church was built. The 15th station of the cross is a special feature, it is dedicated to St. Helena. As a counterpart to the pulpit, the statue of a late Gothic Madonna and Child adorns the opposite wall.

Two wooden sculptures of St. Barbara and St. Catherine can be seen to the side under the gallery. On the right side of the choir is a statue of St. Sebastian. The church was consecrated in 1796 by the Auxiliary Bishop of Constance, Wilhelm Leopold. The current four bells were installed in 1959. The organ was purchased in 1967.

The last renovation of the church took place in 1979/80. The renovation at that time can be described as a successful work. A simple inscription at the entrance reminds us that in 1979/80 the canton and the federal government placed the church of Ufhusen under their protection and thus also recognized its cultural value.
