Muser Brothers / Dixa AG
Description
History: The company Muser Brothers, which was involved in embroidery production and export in St.Gallen since around the 1870s, had the building erected on Stationsstrasse in 1899. The Muser Brothers were Belgian-American dual citizens, proof of the industry’s international character. After the decline of the embroidery industry the Musers sold the buildings to an alarm factory, after which they went over to the Kantonalbank and in 1933 to the herb trader Dix, which evolved into today’s family business, Dixa. Architecture: The oldest part of the building to the south of the complex was designed by Wendelin Heene as an elongated brick building with – crucial in the embroidery business – large windows. From 1902, the factory was repeatedly remodelled and expanded. Present-day use: The company, run by the Dix and Wild families for four generations, processes herbs and spices from around the world.
