Milking Lake

It lies at almost 2,000 meters above sea level and is dammed by an artificial dam. The Hugschwendi power station, which is operated by Elektrizitätswerk Obwalden (EWO), produces electricity.

Fishingin Lake Melchsee Six different species of trout and char are released into Lake Melchsee. Numerous fishermen meet on Melchsee-Frutt for mountain lake fishing. In winter, ice fishing is offered on the frozen lake.

Fireplaces at Lake Melchsee There are two fireplaces around Lake Melchsee in the Vogelbüel and Balmeregg areas for barbecuing. Dry wood and barbecue grills are available - making sausage grilling a fun activity for the whole family.

Hiking A marked hiking trail leads around Lake Melchsee. The path is accessible with baby carriages in reverse time. The circular hike takes about an hour.

In winter, a drag lift pulls skiers and snowboarders across the frozen Melchsee to the Erzegg chairlift and the Balmeregg ski lift on the other shore.
