Local museum and Belp Castle

Description

In the 16th century, the "Steinin Huss an der Gürben in einem Baumgarten", as Belp Castle was known at the time, was used as the official residence of the barons and the "Chefiturm" (cage tower) as the manorial prison. Today, the rooms of the castle house the diverse local museum with changing annual and special exhibitions as well as the Belp music school, the castle gallery and several event rooms.

What was once only available to the select upper classes is now a lively cultural centre for people of all ages.

The "Chefiturm" is just a short walk from Belp Castle - and the walk is definitely worth it. The striking prison is one of the very few still preserved in this form in the canton of Bern.
