Landenberg Schützenhaus & Armory
Description
Landenberg Castle, or Sarnen as it was once known, is located on the Landenberg hill, a foothill of the Ramersberg, which juts out far into the valley.
In the Middle Ages, the fortress was one of the largest castle complexes in Central Switzerland. Today, little of its former size is still recognizable. The castle was built at the beginning of the 13th century by Rudolf of Habsburg the Old and was destroyed during Unterwalden's fight for freedom in 1291.
Landenberg Castle includes the Schützenhaus and the former arsenal.
