Hacksaw Giswil

The saw in Giswil is the only water-powered flail saw in operation in Switzerland. It is operated by volunteers.

The ancient, simple but ingenious operating principle does not require any complex mechanical parts. It is made entirely from local wood. It is amazing how little water is needed to turn the large water wheel. The thickest tree trunks are cut through effortlessly.

Picnic area Right next to the Schlegelsäge, the Rotary picnic area with barbecue and a covered table, benches, shady trees and a clear stream invites you to linger.

Adventure trail A short hike on the nearby adventure trail to Steibi tells you a lot about the arduous work of the woodcutters and the way the wood used to be brought to the saw.
