Glaubenberg moorland

Description

Landscapes that are characterized to an above-average extent by mire biotopes are called mire landscapes. Particularly large and unique ones are designated as "nationally significant". The Glaubenberg mire landscape stretches between the Pilatus range in the north and the Glaubenbielen Pass in the south and is the largest mire landscape in Switzerland at around 125 km2.

The Glaubenberg mire landscape is a typical flysch mire landscape with a high proportion of forest, alpine meadows and distinct, unusable areas (ditches, landslides). The moorland landscape derives its beauty from the diverse mosaic of fens and raised bogs, woodland, shrubs and dwarf shrubs.
