Viamala Gorge The Viamala Gorge is located where one of the many roads to Rome once led, on the historic viaSpluga transit route. With its rugged rock faces, the play of colours of the water and the whirlpools carved into the rock over thousands of years, the gorge offers an unforgettable experience of nature. Even the philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche was fascinated by it: "I write nothing of the immense magnificence of the Viamala. I feel as if I had never even known Switzerland!"

There is a visitor centre with a shop in the centre of the gorge. The stairway down into the gorge is open from April to October.
