Church of St. Mary of the Nativity, Rabius

Description

In 1724, the artist Jakob Rieg painted the interior of the church with sacred images. The church was severely damaged in the village fire of March 1886. In 1901, Rabius separated from the parish of Sumvitg and became an independent parish. In 1928, large parts of the old church were demolished to make way for a new building, with only the west facade and the tower remaining. In 1966, the church's paintings were covered with white paint. In 2001, the Rabius parish carried out a renovation, removing the two side altars and painting the entire church white. In 2016, the roof was re-covered with copper, and in 2017, a complete professional interior renovation took place with the involvement of the heritage conservation office. The two side altars were returned to their original positions.
