Chapel of St Mary Magdalene

Originally, St. Maria Magdalena was a branch of the parish church of St. Lorenz in Paspels. It is unclear when the chapel, a simple ogee-shaped hall church with a recessed apse, was built, but it is certain that it is of Romanesque origin. In the 13th century, the chapel and the Dusch farm belonged to the Barons of Vaz and were donated to the Premonstratensian monastery of Churwalden. The chapel is first mentioned in the Churwalden land register of 1508: "Sequitur unsers gotzhus zins von den gutern, die gehorend den zwayen capellen Sant Lorentzen und Sant Maria Magdalena in Tumilser kirchspel gelegen welche mirsamt iren zehenden, zinsen und gutern unseres gotzhus aygen sind". They are not listed in the papal confirmation of the monastery property from 1208; it is uncertain when the transfer to the Churwalden monastery took place. After the Reformation in the 16th century, the chapel initially stood unused until it was handed over to the Catholic parish of Paspels by the Churwalden monastery in 1786.
