Chapel of St. Anthony of Padua
Description
It is visible from all directions on the gentle hill. The painting on the high altar depicts St. Anthony of Padua holding the infant Jesus in his arms. The two side altars come from the collegiate church in Beromünster.
The history of the chapel is marked by the confessional contrasts of the time. A votive tablet on the back wall depicts a raid by Bernese troops in Altbüron during the Second Villmerger War (1712). The picture shows how St. Anthony is said to have helped the locals.
Hans Roelli
A bust in front of the chapel commemorates the poet, songwriter and singer Hans Roelli (1889 - 1962). He spent some of his youth in Altbüron. His legacy includes over 1000 songs.
