Bar mill

Description

The oldest mention of the Barzmühle dates back to 1452 and was owned by the Bishop of Constance. In 1665, the mill was transferred as a fief to the municipality of Zurzach. The former ship mill on the Rhine appears again and again in general historical records. On 22 December 1998, a foundation was set up to save the Barzmühle. This was done with the great-grandchildren and donors of the former operator Dambach, Frida and Hans Dambach Sel. From 1999 onwards, a great deal of work was carried out in the mill. Craftsmen, professionals, groups of apprentices, interested parties and other organisations worked for free or at cost price. A mill was made ready for operation and flour can now be produced. The following can be seen in the mill today:

  • An exhibition on arable farming as the basis for grain production

  • An intact forge with exhibits from the Höfli District Museum

Today the mill is a popular excursion destination for school classes, class reunions or generally for anyone interested in this old craft.

Guided tours of the Barzmühle are also available.
