Aue Chly Rhy

Description

Beavers, frogs and kingfishers feel at home on the banks of the Aargau High Rhine. They find breeding and nesting sites in the "Chly Rhy" floodplain near Rietheim, a floodplain landscape of national importance. The renaturalised side arm of the Rhine has created a habitat for rare animals and plants: Sand martins, yellow-bellied toads and the great golden grasshopper. The best way to discover the Chly Rhy floodplain is on foot. Information boards on the official paths provide interesting facts about the creation and inhabitants of the floodplain conservation landscape.

A pair of binoculars will come in handy when strolling through the floodplain forest or looking out over the pond from the viewing platform. Don't forget your picnic basket either, as fire pits invite you to linger and enjoy. Nature lovers, animal watchers and botany fans in particular will get their money's worth on a guided tour.

The following rules must be observed in the Chly Rhy floodplain to minimise disturbance to wildlife:

  • Keep dogs on a lead

  • Stay on the official paths

  • Only use the official fireplaces

  • Swimming and bathing is prohibited in the floodplain and in the side arms of the Rhine

  • Fishing is permitted in specially marked areas

Further offers at the Aargauer Hochrein can be found here.
