Exhibition ICH TIER WIR open art museum
Description
ICH TIER WIR is an exhibition about the relationship between humans and animals at the open art museum St.Gallen. Contemporary art and outsider art enter into an open dialog.
The relationship between humans and the environment is currently one of the most important social issues. Man as a natural being and as the master of the world is visible in the relationship between man and animal. In the present of the so-called Anthropocene, this relationship seems to have become increasingly contradictory and emotional: exploited farm animals on the one hand, highly bred and pampered pets on the other. We look for the natural, the creaturely in ourselves in animals; animal images become metaphors or symbols for human feelings.
Under the direction of Peter Kuntner, fischteich, museums from different disciplines have joined forces for the traveling exhibition ICH TIER WIR: in addition to the open art museum, the Museum zu Allerheiligen, Schaffhausen, and the Naturama Aargau. This not only sheds light on the topic itself from multiple perspectives in an exciting way, but also brings together otherwise separate museum circles.
The exhibition at the open art museum focuses on artistic reflections on the relationship between humans and animals. Following the interdisciplinary approach, positions from Outsider Art and contemporary art are brought together. In the artistic reflection of the human-animal relationship, the exhibition opens up entrenched dualistic thought patterns for an open, cross-cultural dialog.
