Unique UNESCO World Heritage Site

The fortress of Bellinzona is one of the most impressive examples of medieval fortifications in the entire Alpine arc and has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2000. With their crenellated walls, towers and gates, these magnificent monuments still amaze visitors today. If you set out to visit the complex today, you can easily get stuck for a day between battlements and drawbridges, between towers and gates, between museum and grotto (in Castelgrande and Sasso Corbaro). But it's worth it: Bellinzona and its castles - "una città, tre castelli" - are world-class. Castelgrande is easily accessible on foot via the alleyways of the old town or by elevator from Piazza del Sole.
