The Voralpen-Express runs hourly between Lucerne and St. Gallen and is the most beautiful combination of nature and culture. Seit dem 30. November 2020 gilt in den Zügen der Südostbahn die Billettpflicht. In den Voralpen-Express-Zügen der SOB werden seit diesem Datum keine Fahrausweise mehr verkauft. Alle Kundinnen und Kunden müssen ihre Fahrausweise vor dem Einsteigen gelöst haben. Die Strecke des Voralpen-Express befindet sich im GA-Gültigkeitsbereich. Inhaberinnen und Inhaber von Generalabonnementen und Tageskarten zum Halbtax benötigen kein zusätzliches Billett. Reisende ohne gültigen Fahrausweis bezahlen den regulären Billettpreis sowie eine Zuschlagsgebühr von CHF 90.–. Die Personalien des Reisenden werden elektronisch erfasst und bleiben während zwei Jahren registriert. Im Wiederholungsfall erhöht sich der Zuschlag. Das Piktogramm mit dem gelben Sichtauge weist die Fahrgäste darauf hin, dass in diesem Zug die Billettpflicht gilt.
